Back to Black Farming

Grant Year:  2017

Back to Black Farming and Wellness Cooperative is cultivating gardens in two empty lots to facilitate science education and entrepreneurial development in agriculture. Community members are building raised beds, a four-bin compost system, establishing a rainwater harvesting system, and planting flowers and crops. The garden is providing a wide range of benefits for the community including STEM education for youth and workshops on culinary skills, marketing, technology, and the history of agriculture to promote economic independence.
