462 Halsey Community Farm is improving its garden by installing an irrigation system, constructing a shed, and updating its tools. To increase its use as a community space, the group is opening up the garden to events and celebrations.

462 Halsey Community Garden is building a trommel to sift and process their compost quicker. They are also improving and repairing their bins as well as expanding their educational component by offering workshops on tracking data and using technology in their composting.

462 Halsey Community Garden is undertaking a biofiltration and soil remediation project to protect crops from heavy metal contaminants in the surrounding environment. As part of this effort, it is building additional curing stations for its compost. At the end of the project the group will produce a soil resource guide for distribution among other community gardens.

462 Halsey Community Garden is expanding their garden’s offerings by introducing weekly potlucks using both produce from the garden and dishes cooked by community members. The potlucks are promoting eating healthy and are building community by giving neighbors a chance to meet each other and share food and recipes. The group is also offering childcare to enable families to bring their children to the events.

462 Halsey Community Garden is transforming a vacant lot into a thriving community garden. This underutilized area is being transformed into a community hub to provide fresh produce for the neighborhood, encourage pride in the neighborhood, and foster healthy living.

462 Halsey Community Garden has engaged a wide range of residents in Bed Stuy. The garden has over 30 official members, 20 regular volunteers and at least 100 regular visitors. As a result of this project, they transformed an abandoned lot into a community garden. Prior to their efforts, there was garbage lining the lot entrance and it had become vulnerable to homeless residents, drug use and vandalism. The group designed a garden that allows visibility from the inside out and vice versa in order to let garden visitors feel safe, as well as allow neighbors to enjoy the beautiful foliage as they pass by.

462 Halsey Community Garden is improving its compost systyem by building more durable compost bins, creating a better curing station, and building a container for woodchips, grass, and leaves. The group is also hosting composting workshops fo community members and new volunteers who want to take part in composting in the garden.
