Love Your (NYC) Block
The Love Your (NYC) Block campaign is a partnership between NYC Service and Citizens Committee for New York City. The campaign combines grants, technical assistance, and a variety of key city services to support neighborhood groups in their block beautification efforts.
In 2010, 60 groups were awarded Love Your (NYC) Block grants from all five boroughs. Each group is working on a project that will improve the physical appearance of the neighborhood. The Departments of Transportation, Sanitation, and Parks and Recreation are supporting these projects by providing services such as graffiti removal, repair of damaged or missing street signage and streetlights, replacement of worn-out or missing litter baskets, and conducting tree, bike rack, and speed bump surveys.
Past grantees have converted vacant lots into community gardens, painted neighborhood murals, organized block cleanup days, planted flowers in street planters and tree pits and created temporary chalk murals.
