Neighborhood Week
Spring is here! Fall in love with your neighborhood all over again! Citizens Committee for New York City is celebrating the city’s vibrant and diverse neighborhoods through our annual Neighborhood Week, May 9-17.
During this week, we are encouraging all New Yorkers to work with their neighbors to improve and strengthen their community. We’ll be highlighting the important community work our groups are doing, and offering help to initiate a project or organize an event.

We are kicking off Neighborhood Week with a block party in our neighborhood, West Chelsea on May 9. Visit our calendar for more info.
Throughout the week, Citizens Committee is also showcasing the nine groups competing in this year's Mollie Parnis Dress Up Your Neighborhood Contest. The contest awards each contestant $1,000 to work on a beautification project that brings neighbors together and builds community. A panel of judges comprised of City Commissioners, Citizens Committee Board Members, and community activists will visit each site to talk with project participants and evaluate the projects. The winning group will be awarded an additional $3,000 to work on another community building project.
This week, we are also announcing the recipients of our spring 2008 grants. The grants, from $500 to $3,000, are offered in the fall and spring to volunteer-led community groups in economically under-resourced neighborhoods across the city. The grants support a range of projects, including increasing access to local organic produce, organizing for tenants rights, establishing community gardens, and beautifying schools.
