Speak Out New York
What do New Yorkers think about their neighborhoods, and what are they willing to do to make them better?
Speak Out New York is an annual, citywide quality of life survey. Citizens Committee for New York City conducts this survey to find out what New Yorkers think about their neighborhoods. We want to know what they think is important, what they like about their own neighborhoods and what they don’t. We also want to know what they think should be done about it, and what they themselves are willing to do to help.
The survey is conducted in September and October, and is available online and in printed form. During this period, we partner with neighborhood groups, such as community boards, block associations and schools to survey their communities. We provide small grants for groups who wish to hold survey events. If your group is interested, or if you would like to volunteer to help with the survey, contact Scott Codey (212) 822-9563.
On Tuesday, January 27th , Peter H. Kostmayer, president of Citizens Committee for New York City, announced the results of the 2009 Speak Out, New York survey. Representatives from resident groups – which partnered with Citizens Committee to design and conduct the survey in all five boroughs – attended the press announcement on the steps of City Hall.
