Grant Type: Neighborhood Grants

Preserving East New York is educating neighbors about the historic preservation process in an effort to promote the protection of several landmark buildings in the neighborhood. In addition to holding workshops about the land marking process at the city and state levels, the group will also be leading walking tours for area residents to increase awareness and enjoyment of the proposed landmarks. Overall, the group's efforts will be inspiring new appreciation for the history of East New York, and improving residents' sense of pride in their community.

Preserving East New York is protecting historical buildings within the community that are in danger of being destroyed. The group is educating residents about preservation and the historical significance of buildings in the neighborhood through canvassing and walking tours. With the support and input of the community, the group is working with the Department of City Planning and the Landmarks Preservation Commission to recognize these important building as landmarks.

Preserving East New York is educating residents about historical preservation in an effort to protect the endangered historical resources of their neighborhood. The group is organizing public workshops and conducting door-to-door canvassing to build up community support for landmark designation of threatened buildings at a time when re-zoning is changing the landscape of the neighborhood.
