Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus is mobilizing youth to be stewards of environmental change by cleaning up Jamaica Bay and advocating for eco-friendly worship practices. Youth are collecting and refurbishing religious statues that have been left behind, as it would be sacrilegious to discard these statues. The project is preserving Jamaica Bay, acting as a bridge between the Hindu community and the National Parks Service, and motivating  youth to get involved in community service and activism.

Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus is cleaning Jamaica Bay and empowering youth to take part in environmental community service. This body of water is a regular site for Hindu worship, and the group is advocating for eco-friendly worship practices.

Grant Type: Neighborhood Grants

Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus is engaging young Hindus in seva (service activities) and mobilizing them to learn about environmental issues. A core group of 10 youth are learning about environmental justice through Hindu texts, encouraging ten temples to choose alternatives to styrofoam, and showcasing their research at a community event.
