Green Team Grant

Through our Green Team Grants, Citizens Committee, in partnership with the NYC Department of Sanitation awards grants of up to $1,000 for projects carried out by public school green teams. Examples of projects that we support include building or expanding a school garden, enhancing a school recycling program, creating school sustainability events, purchasing eco-friendly giveaway items, and providing uniforms/t-shirts for the Green Team.

Applications are collected through the DSNY Zero Waste Schools website; read below for instructions.

Application Instructions 

STEP 1

REGISTER WITH ZERO WASTE SCHOOLS

If you don't have one already, you will need to set up an account on DSNY's Zero Waste Schools platform before you can apply. Visit https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/zws/index.shtml and click "Sign Up" to get started. To get the necessary School Security Code or see if your school already has an account, contact Amber Patino at (212) 437-4622 or APatino@dsny.nyc.gov.

STEP 2

ATTEND AN OPTIONAL INFORMATION SESSION

Citizens Committee and DSNY will be hosting information sessions in lower Manhattan to go over the grant application and give pointers to make your submission a success. Please check back here starting October 1st for dates and RSVP information. These sessions are not mandatory in order to receive the grant.

STEP 3

SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION ONLINE

Applications are accepted through the Zero Waste Schools Website. First, login to your ZWS account at https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/zws/index.shtml; then click "Contests" at the bottom of the page and follow the instructions to submit the grant application.
