Project snapshot

I want to create an interactive learning and therapeutic sensory garden for our wheelchair-bound and toddler guests. The meadow-like area before our garden gate is ideal for this project, accessible to nursing home residents and PreK/3K children. The space, featuring a gazebo and fountain, will serve as a learning area for toddlers and a therapeutic space for the elderly. Five garden members and I plan to create a five-sensory experience with herbs, flowers, and edible plants to stimulate sight, touch, smell, taste, and hearing. The garden will include raised planters, chimes, and seating areas. Our garden members, with input from nursing home staff and PreK/3K teachers, will plan and plant the sensory garden. We’ll sustain it with volunteer gardeners for maintenance.
