Project snapshot

The Chris S. Owens Foundation is transforming the lives of at-risk and justice-involved community members, ages 13 and above, through our innovative Drone Program. Participants engage in experience-oriented learning modules on drone flight and mapping, culminating in an exhibition of their work. We also prepare them for FAA certification. Our focus areas are disproportionately impacted by gun violence and poverty, with limited access to STEM education. By partnering with local organizations, we’ve built strong community ties and have a waiting list of eager participants. The pandemic highlighted the technological gaps our participants face, which we address with accessible, trauma-informed, year-round programming. As we move into an era dominated by AI and technology, our work is more crucial than ever.
