Project snapshot
I am applying for funding to add a second composting hot box at Central Harlem Compost. Our site serves as a community hub for dropping off food scraps, sharing sustainability information, and fostering social connections. Building the hot box will be a community project, inviting neighbors to help and increasing our volunteer base. Our goals are to expand composting capacity, promote environmental sustainability, and strengthen community bonds. Outcomes include increased compost production, greater community involvement, and regular compost giveaways. Despite city-wide food scrap pick-up, community composting offers a local, transparent process. With this expansion, we can share finished compost with neighbors and attract more volunteers through social media and flyers. This equipment will ensure our project’s stability as city funding cuts impact compost partners.
