Project snapshot
The abrupt change to the ESCR plan, made without community input, divided our community. Some supported the new safety plan despite the park’s demolition and tree loss, while others felt it valued “trees over people.” This project aims to rebuild trust by uniting our community and developing community-led stewardship for East River Park. We will reach out via flyers, emails, social media, and community meetings, targeting NYCHA residents, tenant groups, youth and senior organizations, schools, and businesses. Our project will strengthen relationships by bringing together diverse voices to support community-led stewardship. Accessible meetings with interpretation services will ensure broad participation. Sustainability will come from building a strong coalition and collaborating with the City and Partnerships for Parks to align with the Parks Department’s resources.
