Project snapshot

Bement Shoe Hospital, the only shoe and leather repair shop on the North Shore of Staten Island, has been a beloved institution in the West Brighton neighborhood since 1987. After the passing of the previous owner, Vladimir Kiner, Ann Costello took over the business and has actively engaged with the community by participating in the Forest Avenue Business Improvement District and welcoming local students to learn about the trade. With the grant funding, Ms. Costello plans to install an air filtration heating and cooling unit, address ceiling leaks, and restock essential supplies, ensuring a safe and efficient environment for employees and customers. Her dedication to supporting local businesses and expanding the shop’s operations demonstrates her commitment to meeting the community’s needs.
