The Honorable J. Machelle Sweeting Presidential Garden is a project close to my heart, as it addresses the critical issues of climate change and environmental injustices in Harlem. I am aware of the disproportionate exposure to pollution faced by communities of color, and this initiative aims to promote environmental equality through various means such as outreach programs, community empowerment meetings, and hosting events. As a sanctuary for mental well-being, the garden also serves as a platform to discuss and take action against climate change. By incorporating the concept of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), we not only aim to reduce our carbon footprint but also create safe and welcoming outdoor spaces that can potentially lower crime rates.
