Project snapshot

At TWW, Inc., we are empowering young people through the rich legacy of Nina Simone. In our Nina Simone Project, students investigate her role as an activist and artist amidst the cultural and political backdrop of her era. By engaging with her music, participants explore themes of racism, gender, civil rights, and social justice, drawing parallels to today?s struggles. Our residency brings in teaching artists to dissect Simone?s songs, sparking discussion and reflection on historical and contemporary challenges faced by people of color. We aspire to inspire students to overcome adversity with strength, confidence, and perseverance, fostering self-reliance and social consciousness. We’ve witnessed improvements in our participants’ grades, work ethics, and overall confidence, underscoring the transformative power of our programs.
