Project snapshot
Founded in 2017, The Circle Keepers is a youth development fellowship that trains middle and high school aged youth as restorative justice practitioners, peacemakers and activists who bring healing, restoration and transformation into their communities by leading conflict resolution circles, facilitating educational workshops, conducting participatory action research and designing policies that center the voices, experiences and agency of young people in their pursuit of peace, safety, healing, and justice. Some of the activities that we are most proud of are: 1) Training over two hundred NYC youth and 150 adults in restorative practices. 2) A reduction of out of school suspensions by 90% in a District 2 school. 3) Presenting a youth-led restorative justice workshop at SouthBySouthWest, SXSW2023 for educators, school staff and students. 4) Produced youth-led educational RJ media. 5)Visiting Congress to lobby for RJ policy and funding. 6) Testifying in City Council hearings. 7) Producing a yearly Black Lives Matter Teen Summit. 8) Producing a citywide YPAR Restorative Justice conference for 200 NYC youth.
