Project snapshot

The 88th Street Youth Council is launching a Youth Debate Team and Basketball Program to develop teens’ critical thinking, public speaking, teamwork, discipline, and mental wellness. Weekly coached debate sessions engage youth in current events and civic dialogue with educators, officers, and guest speakers; basketball practices and scrimmages provide athletic training and positive mentoring. Culminating public showcases foster community visibility and collaboration, strengthen police-community relationships, reduce youth disengagement, and cultivate future leaders committed to civic participation and neighborhood resilience.
