Project snapshot

ACTION is launching an interactive project that brings together community members through the lens of photography. In collaboration with local farmers’ markets, food pantries, and community organizations in neighborhoods like Coney Island and Brownsville, ACTION aims to enhance the food assistance experience by integrating photography into the process. The initiative invites participants to capture moments of joy, connection, and gratitude, fostering a sense of community and belonging. Through this project, ACTION seeks to highlight the positive aspects of local food systems and community support networks, turning food distribution events into empowering and memorable experiences. By providing participants with printed photos, ACTION works to counter the stigma often associated with food assistance, replacing it with pride and recognition. This initiative not only brings emotional support to underserved populations but also strengthens ties between community members and local resources, creating a lasting impact on both individuals and the community as a whole.
