Beneficial Computing is building a digital tool to streamline Unemployment Insurance (UI) applications for low-income New Yorkers via a pilot with NMIC. The system integrates open-source OCR document scanning, encrypted cloud storage, and benefits-screening modules to provide an end-to-end UI filing workflow for social service providers and community navigators. Using human-centered co-design, FUBU will run UI Filing Days with compensated participants and providers (125 participants across all five boroughs) and produce a public impact brief to enable replication and expansion into other benefits systems.
