Project snapshot

Bombazo Dance Co. is expanding its *Free Bomba Dance, Drum, and Sewing Community Classes* to ensure Bronx residents have year-round access to Puerto Rico’s oldest musical and dance tradition. Rooted in African heritage and resilience, Bomba is more than just movement and rhythm—it is a living cultural expression of strength and unity.  This program offers structured classes for children and adults, with sessions tailored to both beginners and advanced students. Participants learn the intricate timing, rhythms, and codified movements of Bomba dance, while drumming students develop essential techniques and stamina. In addition, Bombazo is preserving another vital tradition—Bomba skirt-making—by offering sewing classes where participants gain hands-on experience in fabric selection, design, and garment creation. By eliminating financial barriers and expanding class offerings, Bombazo Dance Co. is deepening cultural appreciation, fostering intergenerational learning, and ensuring Bomba remains a vibrant force in the Bronx community for years to come.
