Project snapshot
The Brooklyn Drum Collective’s (BDC) Open Jam is an essential community-driven initiative that provides local musicians with a space to connect, collaborate, and grow their skills. For many musicians, especially those without access to professional equipment or performance venues, the Open Jam is an invaluable opportunity to practice in a welcoming and supportive environment. BDC ensures accessibility by providing all necessary gear and maintaining a space where musicians from diverse backgrounds can come together. The jams foster inclusivity by encouraging people of all skill levels to participate, helping to break down barriers in the local music scene. With 48 jam sessions in 2024, BDC has created a consistent hub for musical exchange in Bushwick, a neighborhood rich in cultural diversity. The project is vital for strengthening Brooklyn’s local music community, offering a platform for creative expression and professional development, while supporting musicians who might otherwise be excluded from formal performance opportunities.
