Bruno Destrez Double Bass / Bass Repairs

West Village, Manhattan

Project snapshot

Bruno Destrez has served NYC’s Classical, Jazz, and Tango Acoustic Bass-playing community as a luthier for 32 years. With the help of a grant, he plans to secure workspace, build an online platform and website, fundraise for an educational program, and invest in new equipment to eventually hire apprentices. His shop supports jazz clubs and musicians in NYC, often helping those in need. Additionally, Bruno, with his wife Kyoko Oyobe, created a free program for kids aged 5 to 11 years old to create Music together. The pandemic has been difficult and they are working to reinvent their business. Overall, Bruno aims to keep the culture alive in the city by offering support for musicians.
