Project snapshot
The Cada Paso Summer Program aims to address the “summer slump” in school performance by offering educational services integrated with food security and learning in a local community garden, specifically Chenchita’s Garden. The program seeks to purchase gardening materials, art supplies, and reading/writing materials while providing stipends for educational experts associated with Little Sisters of the Assumption to deliver the curriculum. By focusing on environmental justice topics such as air quality, water quality, climate resilience, and health disparities, the program empowers youth leaders to become advocates for change and create recommendations for neighborhood improvements. Additionally, parents receive customized needs assessments and access to relevant community resources to support their own needs and promote overall family success within East Harlem.
