Project snapshot
Doulas on Deck is a Weill Cornell medical student–run volunteer organization that expands access to free birth doula care for underserved and underinsured patients of NewYork‑Presbyterian Women’s Health Practice. The program recruits and certifies student doulas through an intensive training covering trauma‑informed care, advocacy, labor physiology, comfort measures, cultural sensitivity, and hospital collaboration; doulas provide prenatal planning and continuous intrapartum support. Scaling trainings doubles clinical capacity, reduces disparities in perinatal support, and improves birthing outcomes for the community.
