Project snapshot

Garden in the Wake is spearheading an innovative and impactful project within their community by hosting a Black Queer and Trans Garden Film Fest. Our initiative aims to transform an underutilized garden lot into a vibrant cultural space that not only celebrates but also amplifies the voices of the Black queer and trans community through cinema. By collaborating with garden members and local residents, we are set to feature a mural of a Black history icon, creating a meaningful and inspiring backdrop for the film screenings scheduled during the warmer months. The chosen location, adjacent to a preschool and surrounded by long-standing neighborhood residents, has a history of neglect and misuse, including illegal activities.
