Project snapshot
Humacao Community Garden is a community garden nestled in the heart of East Harlem. The garden’s mission this season is to enhance the beauty and accessibility of the space, making it a welcoming haven for the community. Staff have identified the need for durable, metal seating options that accommodate individuals with mobility challenges, differing from our current setup with an attached bench picnic table which restricts accessibility. Additionally, staff aim to focus on the maintenance challenges posed by our lush, shaded garden. The team, including older members with mobility issues, plans to purchase a battery-operated chainsaw to facilitate pruning and creative repurposing of woody debris for art projects, thereby enhancing the garden’s aesthetic and functionality.
