Project snapshot
Field Notes from the Work (and the Wild) produces The Work Behind the Work: Bronx Edition, a yearlong storytelling initiative documenting 10 Bronx residents whose quotidian labor sustains the borough. Each profile combines portrait photography, audio interviews, and written narratives; outputs include digital publication, a printed zine distributed free across neighborhood hubs, and three public events (storytelling night, portrait exhibit, reflection workshop). Grant support compensates Bronx-based photographers, sound editors, writers, and hosts and covers printing and event costs. The project addresses community invisibility by validating everyday civic labor, strengthening social bonds and local cultural infrastructure.
