Project snapshot

Maker Park Radio is supporting community sustainability and environmental education by restoring and securing its composting and rainwater collection system at Maker Park. As a vital arts and cultural hub on Staten Island, MPR not only provides 40 hours of weekly arts-based radio programming and community events, but also stewards Maker Park, a rare public arts space in a neighborhood impacted by urban blight. After winter vandalism damaged the compost bin and rainwater collection barrels, MPR is working to reinforce and fence in these resources, install lighting for nighttime security, and restore plantings affected by dry conditions. Alongside these improvements, MPR will host a composting workshop, a native plant workshop, a spring planting day, a book swap, and a clothing swap, fostering environmental stewardship and community connection.
