Project snapshot

Our community garden needs renovation due to two major disruptions: the COVID-19 pandemic and nearly two years of school reconstruction, which limited student access. These events halted our gardening, donation, and sales activities. We use our garden as an open-air classroom for hands-on learning and maintenance. I aim to renovate the garden, making it attractive year-round. We will create a meditation garden with a fishpond and herbal garden, providing a serene space for students and parents. Signs with encouraging messages will be placed along the flower beds in winter. This project will bring the community together, allowing everyone to work side by side, safeguarding and winterizing the gardens. Successful planting will enable us to reopen our Farmers Market, providing affordable, fresh vegetables and donations to local pantries and shelters. Post-grant sustainability includes winterizing beds to prevent weeds and soil degradation, using Farmers Market proceeds for seedlings, and creating durable signs with child-safe paints. The emotional benefits for students from the meditation garden are invaluable.
