Project snapshot
My project aims to raise awareness about the importance of native plants and their role in the food web by expanding native plantings at the Spuyten Duyvil Public Library. We’ll plant two large raised beds with native plants and shrubs to create a three-season flower display and a pollinator haven. This high-traffic location, seen by library visitors, schoolchildren, and park-goers, will serve as a community anchor for native plant education. We will use our Sunday Market tabling activities, community newspapers, and library outreach to recruit volunteers for planting and maintenance. Goals include expanding pollinator habitats, reconnecting the community with nature, and providing immersive, restorative experiences. We hope to inspire residents to create native plant gardens and recognize the value of ecological restoration.
