Project snapshot

Polo Grounds Family Garden, founded in 2017 in a food desert, continues its mission to provide residents with fresh, homegrown fruits and vegetables. Despite challenges like low-quality produce in local markets and setbacks such as the accidental destruction of blueberry bushes in 2024, the garden remains a vital source of healthy food. In 2025, Polo Grounds Family Garden aims to enhance its production by purchasing hoops and raised bed covers to protect plants from high winds, a common challenge in their location. The garden will also introduce planters to separate aggressive herbs and improve organization with designated areas, such as a blueberry patch and flower beds. To engage the community, the garden plans to distribute flyers to raise awareness and invite volunteers, while involving children from the Polo Grounds Community Center in gardening activities. Supplies for the children’s safety will also be provided. This project will strengthen the garden’s impact and foster greater community participation.
