Project snapshot
S’MAC (Sarita’s Macaroni & Cheese) is a beloved neighborhood restaurant located in the East Village of Manhattan that has been transforming macaroni & cheese into a main meal since 2006. The grant would help fund hiring staff to create brand story, deck, and operation manuals, refurbishing the outdoor dining area, updating the POS systems, and purchasing a new prep oven. S’MAC is committed to giving back to the community and has donated food and gift cards in support of organizations such as the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, The Poetry Project, local theaters, schools within New York City. Additionally, they have hosted talks and tours about entrepreneurship onsite at S’MAC for schools and for local Girl Scout and Cub Scout troops. In April 2020, they introduced a new project called Every Month Flash Fiction to feature uplifting and positive stories from local authors in exchange for monetary compensation. They also raised $20,000 worth of donations towards food for hospital workers and run a community fridge and pantry.
