Project snapshot

Comic Books for Justice (CB4J) leads the Turning The Page Campaign, a literacy and empowerment program that distributes 10,000 comic books to incarcerated people across New York State and partners with jail and prison education providers. The project delivers curated comic kits with literacy prompts, facilitates peer-led reading groups and comic literacy circles, runs workshops in comic writing and illustration co-led by system-impacted artists, publishes a participant-authored DIY workbook, and curates a public exhibition and virtual gallery. It expands access to multimodal literacy, cultivates creative self-expression, and strengthens educational equity within carceral settings.
