Project snapshot
South Brooklyn Sanctuary is continuing its weekly “Know Your Rights” clinic, providing essential support to vulnerable immigrants in Brooklyn. Launched in January 2024 at the Fifth Avenue Committee, this program helps individuals navigate the U.S. immigration system by providing essential legal information in a safe, supportive environment. The clinic offers guidance on topics such as court appearances, ICE check-ins, and the asylum process, empowering participants to manage their cases independently. The program also connects immigrants with volunteer attorneys for technical questions and provides referrals to legal services and social support through the Fifth Avenue Committee. A key aspect of the clinic is the peer-led discussions, where returning participants share their experiences and advice with newcomers, fostering a community of mutual support. This initiative is vital in helping immigrants avoid exploitation and navigate the complexities of the immigration system while fostering a strong, informed community.
