Project snapshot

Southside Warriors Tae Kwon Do, an anti-gun violence organization, empowers at-risk youth through martial arts training, de-escalation techniques, and opportunities for broader experiences beyond their neighborhoods. The impending grant will largely support their Work, Learn, Grow youth employment program, in which initially voluntary positions evolved into paid instructing roles, enhancing both the youths’ skills and community engagement. Amid the current violence and COVID-19 crises, the remainder of the grant will be invested in making the training area safer, retrofitting it with new mats, partitions, and additional martial arts equipment, in compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols.
