The Ark at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah

Midtown South, Manhattan

Project snapshot

LGBTQ Asylum Seeker Leadership Academy: This program trains existing clients to serve as volunteer community navigators who assist newly arrived asylum seekers at The Ark at CBST’s legal clinics and programs. Weekly sessions over two months, led by the Immigration Clinic Navigator with graduate social work interns, teach asylum-law basics, U.S. immigration system orientation, administrative skills, and NYC social-service eligibility. Participants receive supports and supervision, undertake field visits exploring housing issues, and graduate ready to expand peer-led access to legal help, reduce service barriers, and strengthen community integration.
