Project snapshot
The Flossy Organization’s Advocacy Academy is a civic engagement program designed to empower youth and community members in Canarsie. Through this initiative, participants are trained to become effective advocates for pressing issues such as gun violence, mental health, and environmental justice. What sets the Academy apart is its intergenerational approach, connecting youth with community elders to foster shared knowledge and collaboration. Since its inception, the program has trained over 350 participants, helping them secure significant victories, such as $1.6 million in funding for a Cure Violence site in Canarsie. In 2025, the Academy will expand with the Mobile Advocacy Lab, a state-of-the-art mobile unit that brings digital civic training to underserved communities. This project also includes the launch of an AI-powered CivicTech platform, providing participants with the tools they need to lead data-driven advocacy campaigns.
