The Sixth Street & Avenue B Community Garden

Lower East Side, Manhattan

Project snapshot

Families In Community expands its Community Food Justice “Kids Cook Your Culture/Family Nutrition” program at a preK–8 Title I school in Chinatown/Two Bridges, restoring garden and compost infrastructure, replacing hazardous wood, implementing vermin mitigation, and reinstituting garden-to-cafeteria learning. The project trains parents and older youth to steward intergenerational environmental education, urban farming, food sovereignty, and culturally grounded cooking, improving food access, safety, community resilience, and sustainable youth-led programming.
