Project snapshot
Ujamaa Black Theater runs an eight-week Acting Academy centered on the original play The Gospel of the Harlem Renaissance, delivering acting, voice, and movement training alongside curriculum on the era’s cultural and sociopolitical significance. Participants aged 13–45 engage in ensemble rehearsal, dramaturgical study, and public performance at the Schomburg Center. The program funds artist stipends, production resources, and participant supports to expand access, foster intergenerational artistic development, and strengthen community cultural heritage and civic engagement.
