Project snapshot
Sara Roosevelt Park Community Coalition (SRPCC) is spotlighting a formerly enslaved African American Sebastiaen de Britto?s ownership of the land where the garden stands. Neighbors and volunteers from diverse backgrounds are building a small flowering garden based on research of historic southern African heritage garden plants and flowers. They are also building pathways for wandering into and installing a plaque detailing this legacy. This project is also introducing this previously hidden history to the wider community, local students and interested parties through tours in collaboration with museums and schools.
