Project snapshot
Friends of Tompkins Square Park is spearheading a beautification project that is filling empty tree pits with robust saplings, native shrubbery, and flowers. The planting of trees is creating a greener space in a park that does not have enough of it. The trees are creating a habitat for butterflies and other beneficial insects which opens the possibility of creating a community garden in the future. Partnering with schools and local businesses near the park is inviting residents to invest their time in this beautification effort.
