Project snapshot

Awaken NYC leads a youth-driven public health campaign to eliminate lead exposure in NYC by combining community education, targeted outreach, water testing, deployment of point-of-use and point-of-entry filtration in Jacob Riis NYCHA homes, emergency bottled water distribution, resident surveys, and advocacy for lead pipe disclosure and infrastructure replacement. Leveraging lived experience in high-risk neighborhoods, the initiative addresses aging infrastructure that endangers children and pregnant women, builds trust through participatory solutions, and seeks policy reform and sustainable water access for impacted communities.
