Association of African Professional Women in the Diaspora

Mount Eden, Bronx

Project snapshot

The Association of African Professional Women in the Diaspora presents “EmpowerHER,” a program designed to equip women from ethnic communities in the South Bronx with the skills and resources to launch food-based businesses. This six-week workshop series covers essential aspects of culinary entrepreneurship, including recipe development, food safety, marketing, and financial management. Participants will engage in hands-on cooking sessions, learning to create and promote traditional dishes while receiving guidance from local chefs and successful women entrepreneurs. Each participant will develop a business plan and receive professional feedback to refine their vision. The program culminates in a community food festival where participants can showcase their dishes, sell products, and connect with potential customers. By fostering economic empowerment through cultural cuisine, “EmpowerHER” celebrates heritage while creating pathways to financial independence for women in the South Bronx.
