Project snapshot

Buena Onda Collective, in partnership with the Urban Soils Institute, stages a community festival in Far Rockaway that integrates urban coastal ecology, soil science, and participatory art. Residents co-create immersive sonic and visual installations derived from collected soil samples, acoustic data, and microscopic imagery produced during hands-on workshops. The project maps soil health to inform climate resilience, flood mitigation, and food security strategies while fostering environmental justice, community stewardship, and collective expression. Success is measured by participation, data-driven artistic outputs, and strengthened local resilience.
