Project snapshot

The Canvas Institute’s annual Cops for Kids chess tournament is an important event that brings the police department and local community together in a positive way. The tournament pairs elementary and high school students with officers from various Island Precincts to play a friendly game of chess, helping to foster meaningful relationships between them. This annual event helps bridge all sorts of gaps and is an important part of creating a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.
