Project snapshot

Manhattan Healing Forest / Tekenink atàm sustains and scales the city’s first Miyawaki pocket forest on Roosevelt Island by delivering community programming, partner engagement, celebratory events, educational outreach, compost-based soil regeneration, and permanent interpretive signage to maintain a 1,500-tree, 47-native-species assemblage. The project demonstrates dense-planting and mycorrhizal-driven rapid afforestation to reduce urban heat, absorb stormwater, enhance biodiversity, and foster stewardship, providing a replicable “green acupuncture” model for neighborhood-scale climate resilience.
