Project snapshot

The Polo Grounds Stakeholders Group, composed of 15 residents ranging from ages 13 to 74, is dedicated to addressing common challenges faced by public housing communities. After successfully implementing projects like a youth hub and resource fairs, they are now focusing on improving health and wellness for residents. Their latest initiative involves transforming an underutilized space within the NYCHA campus into a workout area/gym that will serve residents of all ages. This new facility will provide essential cardio and strength training equipment, open spaces for group fitness classes like yoga and Zumba, and specialized programs for both youth and seniors. The gym will be accessible to all residents, promoting physical activity and helping to combat chronic health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. This project aligns with NYC’s public health initiatives and offers a crucial resource for the community, fostering a healthier and more engaged environment for everyone.
