Project snapshot
Roots of Resilience engages P.S. 021 Crispus Attucks students in Brownsville—many from shelters, NYCHA, or working-class households—in a series of weekend workshops teaching indoor hydroponic food production. Curriculum covers hydroponic science, medicinal herbs, food justice, and wellness; elders contribute intergenerational gardening knowledge. Participants gain hands-on cultivation skills, explore food’s links to healing, culture, and survival, and some receive mini hydroponic systems to sustain growth in crowded or temporary housing. The program brings nature, calm, confidence, and creative agency to a high-need community.
