Project snapshot

The People’s Kitchen is addressing food insecurity and building community resilience in East New York by hosting bi-weekly cooking and food-sharing programs at the Arlington Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. The project will provide free access to fresh produce, pantry staples, cooking tools, and space for communal cooking, while fostering a culture of collective care and education. Participants will engage in workshops on food systems, urban food apartheid, and tenant rights, along with opportunities to contribute to a community recipe archive. Sourcing food from local food banks and BIPOC-owned farms, the project will serve marginalized groups such as asylum seekers, houseless individuals, and other residents relying on the library for essential services.
