Project snapshot

United Fujian Seniors of USA is enhancing the well-being of low-income immigrant seniors in Sunset Park through cultural engagement and community service. Recognizing the park as a vital communal space, the group has been organizing weekly park cleanups and beautification efforts since 2017, fostering a sense of belonging and pride. In addition to these volunteer activities, they collaborate with local organizations to distribute food through a weekly pantry, addressing food insecurity in the senior community. With many of these seniors facing housing challenges and living in overcrowded conditions, the park serves as a crucial gathering place. This year, United Fujian Seniors aims to host two traditional Fujianese folk opera performances in the park, bringing culturally enriching experiences that promote socialization, mental well-being, and community bonding. These performances will be expanded into community resource events, offering vital support services while celebrating the cultural heritage of the seniors they serve.
